National Law Day 2025

By Alekman DiTusa LLC – Personal Injury Attorneys Serving Springfield, MA

Every year on May 1st, Law Day invites us to pause and reflect on the role of law in our democracy. For 2025, the theme set by the American Bar Association is both timeless and urgent: “E Pluribus Unum – Out of Many, One.” It’s a reminder that while our society is diverse in identity, belief, and experience, our commitment to justice and the rule of law is what binds us together.

At Alekman DiTusa, a personal injury law firm rooted in the Springfield community, we see the practical importance of these ideals every day. Whether we’re representing someone injured in a car crash, a child harmed by negligence, or a worker hurt on the job, we’re constantly reminded that access to justice isn’t just a legal principle—it’s a moral one.

Why Law Day Still Matters

Law Day was established in 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower as a way to recognize the foundation of our legal system and the freedoms it protects. In today’s climate of political polarization, distrust in institutions, and social unrest, the rule of law is not something we can take for granted.

The Constitution begins with the words “We the People,” setting forth a vision of shared governance and mutual responsibility. But as recent events have shown—ranging from mass protests to contentious elections and efforts to roll back civil protections—the American promise of equal justice under the law still requires defending.

E Pluribus Unum in 2025: A Pledge Worth Renewing

The motto, ‘E Pluribus Unum—Out of Many, One’—was proposed in 1776 by Pierre Eugene Du Simitiere, a little-known but profoundly influential figure in American history. He saw the early United States as a tapestry of different colonies, cultures, and philosophies, united not by sameness, but by purpose.

Today, this message is more critical than ever. With sharp divisions across race, class, and political ideology, the law remains one of the few shared structures where fairness is meant to prevail over partisanship. At Alekman DiTusa LLC, we believe the courtroom is one of the last remaining arenas where the powerless can hold the powerful accountable—and that’s a responsibility we take seriously.

Personal Injury Law: A Daily Expression of Justice

In our work, we meet people who’ve been hurt—not just physically, but financially and emotionally. These individuals are often up against large insurance companies, corporate defendants, or bureaucratic systems that don’t see them as individuals. This is where the rule of law shows its power. Through our civil justice system, injured people can demand accountability and receive the compensation they deserve. This process—built on rules, evidence, and fairness—isn’t perfect, but it represents a vital thread in the fabric of our democracy.

Respect for the Rule of Law Begins Locally

While National Law Day is a national observance, we believe its true impact begins in local communities like Springfield. Respect for the law starts with knowing your rights, engaging in civic life, and demanding transparency and justice from those in power. Our firm is proud to serve clients throughout Western Massachusetts and beyond, offering not just legal guidance, but a voice to those who might otherwise be unheard. When we advocate for a client, we’re not just arguing a case—we’re defending the principle that no one is above the law, and everyone deserves their day in court.

A Call to Action

On this Law Day, we encourage all our neighbors and clients to think deeply about the role of law in their lives. Read the Constitution. Serve on a jury. Vote. Speak out when rights are threatened. And if you or someone you love has been harmed, know that there are legal pathways forward—and that firms, like ours at Alekman DiTusa, are here to help.

Law is more than rules—it’s a reflection of who we are, and who we hope to be. Let’s work together to make “justice for all” more than a pledge. Let’s make it real.
