$340,000.00 Settlement
Our client as a 61-year-old woman shopping at a local Ocean State Job Lot who tripped over the large black weather mat at the entrance of the store. Discovery revealed that the store employees had failed to replace the mat after it had been was saturated with water. Instead, an employee placed a number of bath towels under the mat in a misguided attempt to soak up the excess water. This created dangerous condition whereby the mat was raised and uneven. Our client attempted to walk over the mat to exit the store, but tripped and fell, ultimately breaking her right arm and requiring surgery.
The Parties were able to resolve the case through mediation for $340,000.00.
